Understanding Stair Lift Rental Pros and Cons
For many people who live in two story houses and have a physical disability that makes getting up and down the stairs very painful, difficult or just plain impossible, the installation of a residential stair lift is the answer to all their prayers and the solution to many of their problems. For many people, buying one of these wonderful devices is an option well worth investing in. However, not everyone can afford to meet the often expensive purchase price of a stairlift and have to do without.
But there is an option available to you especially if you only envisage needing a stairlift for a finite period of time and that period is not overly long. This would be the case if you were recovering from an illness or injury that prevents you from climbing the stairs. That is stair lift rental and this option is a viable one especially if your needs are great but your finances limited. There are some pros and cons to be considered and we’ll look at them here.
Pros
The obvious benefits are financial and that means you don’t have that huge initial expense to find for the installation of your home stair chair lift. By spreading the costs with a monthly rental fee, having one of these devices installed ion your home suddenly becomes a real option. The costs are not too steep and for around $100 to $200 a month, you could have complete access to all of your home.
Cons
The cons do tend to outweigh the pros by quite a lot unless your intention is to rent for a short or limited period of time. If you intend to rent for longer than, say a year, then you will find yourself having to stump up that monthly payment every month and you’ll never own your home stair lift.
When renting, you need to go through the rental contract with a fine tooth comb to make sure you are getting everything that you are paying for and not about to be hit with a bunch of hidden extras. Also, you are often limited to used models and you may not get the model or color that you want.
Sometimes the option of getting finance to cover the cost of the purchase can work out only slightly more on a monthly basis than rental. the benefit there is that when you have made that final payment, the stairlift is yours. You also get to choose the model and color you want with this option.
There are lots of things to think about before committing yourself to a stair lift rental agreement for a home stair lift, so be on your guard and make sure you have thought everything through first before making your final decision.
